Tribal Journeys – Suquamish Landing

July 20, 2017

Canoes traveling to the We Wai Kai and Wei Wai Kum nations for Tribal Journeys 2017 will be stopping in Suquamish for an overnight stay. As part of the stopover, canoes will arrive by water to the Charles Lawrence Memorial Boat Ramp next to the House of Awakened Culture in Downtown Suquamish (arrival time will be dependent upon the tide). Canoe Families will be traditionally welcomed by the Suquamish People and provided with camping and asked to share an meal. Afterwards, visiting Tribes and First Nations will be given an opportunity to share their culture with one another through traditional songs and daces in the House of Awakened Culture (protocol). Canoes will leave the next morning to continue their journey. Suquamish canoes will join in the travel. For more information on the Suquamish stopover for Tribal Journeys this year, contact Suquamish Cultural Coordinator Tina Jackson at tjackson@suquamish.nsn.us.
