Suquamish Tribal Housing actively solicits applications from Tribal Members for participation in one or more of the following homeowner programs.

Down Payment Assistance (DPA)

What is the Program?
Each year, the Department of Community Development receives limited funds to assist Tribal Members with down payments so they can purchase or refinance a home.

Who is eligible?
All Tribal members 18 and over are eligible to apply. The home must be located in Kitsap County to be eligible for the Down Payment Assistance.

Is this a HUD-funded program?
This is not a HUD-funded program, tribal revenue funds the program.

How do I sign up to be considered for Down Payment Assistance?
Just come in to the DCD office and fill out an application or give us a call and one will be mailed to you. You can also download the application here.

HUD 184 Loan

What is the Program?
HUD 184 refers to the Section 184 Indian Home Loan Guarantee Program available to enrolled members of Federally Recognized Tribes. The program guarantees loans made to Tribal Members. This is not a grant program. All funds must be repaid. Often used in conjunction with the Down Payment Assistance Grant, loans are typically made for:

  • Purchase of a new home (on or off reservation)
  • Renovations to an existing home
  • Installation of a manufactured home
  • Consolidation of debt

Who is eligible?
All Tribal Members 18 and over are eligible.

Is this a HUD funded program?
HUD guarantees loans written under this program. However, it is not a program for a HUD home and is not low-income dependent.

Homeowner Maintenance Assistance

What is the program?

The purpose of the (Homeowner or Housing Maintenance Assistance) HMA Program is to fulfill an unmet need for tribal members needing care, repairs, or maintenance to their existing homes. Download the application here.

What kind of funding is available?

Both grants and loans are available under this program. To be eligible for the loan portion of this program, homeowners must have sufficient income to repay the loan.

  • Grants
    Eligible Tribal Members are eligible for one time grants under this program, up to a maximum of $10,000.
  • Loans
    Eligible individuals may receive a loan instead of or in addition to the grant funds. The individual must be able to repay the loan amount requested.

What kind of maintenance is covered under the program?

Any home buyer maintenance or needed home improvement is allowable under the program. This includes but isn’t limited to:

  • Roof
  • Energy efficient windows, double pane windows
  • Ramps for accessibility to home for elders
  • House painting
  • Deck repairs
  • Carpet
  • Flooring
  • Generators
  • Heat pumps
  • Paint inside or outside
  • Appliances such as washers, dryers, dishwashers,
    stove, freezers
