Releases of hazardous substances into the environment from past and current industrial activities and other sources have a devastating impact to Treaty tribes. A number of these pollutants accumulate in the sediment and biota that lead to poor fish and shellfish health, unacceptable human health risks, and fishery closures.

Superfund Sites & Cleanup Actions

• Bremerton Gasworks (Superfund Site)
  A former manufactured gas plant located about a mile and a half north of downtown Bremerton, Washington.
  
• Harbor Island – East Waterway Sediments Operable Unit (Superfund Site)
  A 420-acre island located in the Duwamish River delta in Elliott Bay in the City of Seattle, Washington.
• Jackson Park Housing Complex–U.S. Navy (Superfund Site)
  The Jackson Park Housing Complex (JPHC) is located east of Highway 3, approximately two miles northwest of Bremerton, Washington.
• Lower Duwamish Waterway (Superfund Site)
  An industrialized estuary located in near Seattle, Washington. The lower portion of the Green River.
• Naval Undersea Warfare Center – Keyport (Superfund Site)
  A military industrial complex located near Silverdale, Washington.
• Port Gamble Bay (Puget Sound Initiative Site) 
  Located in Kitsap County, the bay encompasses more than two square miles of subtidal and shallow intertidal habitat south of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
• Old Navy Dump/Manchester Lab (Superfund Site)
  A military industrial site located near Bremerton, Washington.
• Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Complex (Superfund Site)
  An active military industrial site located in Bremerton, Washington.
• Wyckoff-Eagle Harbor (Superfund Site)
  A former wood treating facility on the east side of Bainbridge Island in Central Puget Sound, Washington.
