Suquamish Tribe Elects Vice Chair, Treasurer to Tribal Council
The Suquamish Tribe elected two of its citizens to Tribal Council at the Tribe’s annual General Council meeting March 16, held at Kiana Lodge on the Port Madison Reservation overlooking Puget Sound.
Josh Bagley was re-elected for a second term as Vice Chair while Andrew George was elected to serve as Treasurer.
Bagley brings extensive experience in tribal governance and advocacy. As the Tribe’s Treaty Rights Protection Division Policy Liaison, he works to uphold Suquamish fishing and land rights while building partnerships with other tribes, government agencies, and advocacy groups across the state and nation.
As Marketing Manager of Suquamish Seafoods, George oversees the branding and distribution of high-quality seafood harvested from the waters of Puget Sound. This tribally owned enterprise not only supplies fresh seafood to regional and international markets but also sustains a fishing tradition central to Suquamish culture. The company operates a retail store on the Port Madison Reservation, between Poulsbo and Bainbridge Island.
Outgoing Treasurer Denita Holmes chose not to seek reelection this year. Holmes was thanked for her service in a traditional blanket-wrapping ceremony.
The Suquamish Tribe is led by a seven-member Tribal Council consisting of four officers – Chairman, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary – and three at-large Council Members. Tribal Council officers and members serve three-year staggered terms.
The Suquamish Tribe consists of approximately 1,500 citizens. Tribal members vote for Council representatives each March during the General Council meeting.
The new Tribal Council , from left to right, is Council Member Luther “Jay” Mills, Jr, Secretary Irene Carper, Vice Chair Josh Bagley, Chairman Leonard Forsman, Treasurer Andrew George, Council Member Azure Boure, and Council Member Lorilee Morsette.
