What is Nurse Family Partnership?
Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) is a voluntary and free program that provides you with a free personal nurse to partner with you throughout your pregnancy and until your baby is 2 years old. Your nurse will walk alongside you on your pregnancy and parenting journey to help you have a healthy pregnancy, have a healthy baby, help you meet your life’s goals, and plan for your future. Your nurse will provide you with support, education and connect you with any resources you may need, as well as help you navigate the healthcare system.
Who is eligible?
Anyone who is pregnant and would like this support. Priority will be given to Suquamish Tribal members, descendants, and family members. We are also able to serve any individual who identifies as native within Kitsap County as well as non-native members of the Suquamish community.
Do I have to be a first-time mom?
No, you can enroll no matter what # pregnancy this is for you.
Are there income requirements?
No, there are no income requirements for enrollment.
Do I have to enroll by a certain time?
You must enroll before the birth of your baby, but the earlier in your pregnancy the better!
What are the goals of the program?
The goals of the program are to:
- Help you have a healthy pregnancy
- Have a healthy baby
- Help you meet your life’s goals
What does a NFP visit look like?
However you want! The nurse can meet you at your home, you can come to the office, or we can meet somewhere in the community (library, park, coffee shop, go for a walk, etc). We can also offer video or phone appointments, if needed. Visits typically last about an hour but can be shorter or longer depending on your needs and availability.
How often will I meet with my nurse?
On average, you will meet with your nurse every two weeks. There are times in this partnership where meeting weekly is helpful, like when we first start our relationship (so we can get to know each other better!) and in the postpartum phase (where you may want more support!) or when you may be navigating a more difficult time. These are only averages and may look different for you depending on your wants and needs.
What are some topics we might cover during visits?
- Pregnancy and fetal development
- Labor and Delivery
- Breastfeeding
- Health and child development
- Making your home a safe place for a baby
- Setting goals for life
- How to access services that are available
- Build a strong network of support for themselves and their baby
What else can NFP help with?
Substance Use, Intimate Partner Violence, Mental Health
