Pet Emergency Preparedness

Pet Food
Pet food for 3 days to 1 week (or more)
Water
Enough water for 3 days to 1 week (or more)
Bowl
A bowl that can be used for food and/or water
Animal Carrier
Pet carrier that fits your pet comfortably
Medicine
Any medication your pet may take on a regular basis as well as an animal first aid kit
Leash & Collar
Leash, harness, and collar for your pet
Treats
Treats, a favored toy or comfort item and a small blanket or towel with your scent on it.
Important Documents
Copy of vaccination records and a photo of you and your pet together (for identification purposes).
Extra Supplies
For cats: a small container with cat litter and plastic bags

For dogs: a roll of poop bags

Reptiles: a portable heat lamp

Birds: cuttlebone and grit

Make a Pet Plan

Make a list of pet-friendly family members and neighbors with their emergency numbers. Ensure everyone in your household has a copy. If you are unable to get home during an emergency, contact someone from the emergency list.

Remember if it’s not safe for you, it’s not safe your pets.

If you need to evacuate, have a go bag for you and a go bag for your pet. Evacuation shelters may not accept pets, but they can put you in touch with an animal assistance organization.
